It’s always fun to take a look at the Florida Spring Training stats to see who’s on the up and up within the 15 teams of the Florida Grapefruit League.
Take for instance the three home run leaders in the Florida Grapefruit League. Trayce Thompson, Matt Wallner and Austin Wells, each hit six home runs. All three were high draft picks and range in age from 25 (Wells) to 34 (Thompson). Each have hit a few Major League home runs with all three reaching double digit home runs in their careers.
Wallner and Wells made the Opening Day lineup for the Twins and Yankees. Wallner was in right field and Wells was the Yankees starting catcher. Thompson was assigned to the AAA Worcester Red Sox.
Toronto hopes that Bo Bichette’s .373 batting average in Dunedin is a bounce back from 2024 when he hit .225. In each of the previous five seasons, Bichette had a batting average of .290 or higher for the Blue Jays.
Will Warren was the only MLB pitcher to win four games in the 2025 Spring Training season, making six starts for the New York Yankees. Warren, 25, made his debut last season and compiled an 0-3 record, pitching in six games and making five starts.
Garrett Crochet, an off-season signee by the Red Sox, picked up where he left off in 2024 with the Chicago White Sox. Crochet, struck out 30 batters in 15.2 innings. He was one of 11 pitchers to strike out 200+ batters last season.
Baseball fans love to follow stats, even during spring training.
