Atlanta Braves - WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort
ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
Champion Stadium at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex is architecturally one of the flashier venues for spring training. It's also one of the largest: with 9,500 seats (80 percent between the first and third bases). The design is in a Florida Spanish Mission design with some Art Deco touches.
The stadium is a marvel with double-decked seating and the cheerful cast members playing the role of concessionaires. The gentlest part of the park is the general admission seating area down the left-line, which isn't designed for sitting at all, but for lounging on an emerald hill atop blankets and beach towels brought from home. The ballpark is spotlessly clean, but then this is Disney: What else did you expect? There is a very agreeable spaciousness to the stadium, despite almost all the seating being concentrated in the two-deck grandstand. The lower level features two concourses -- a small one at the back of the grandstand and a much larger one within the grandstand -- while the upper level features a large concourse within the grandstand, four luxury boxes and two open-air suites. The wider concourses make for pleasant milling around during the game, and there's an expanded area outside of the grandstand that can accommodate groups.
In-game entertainment provides plenty to keep fans busy between innings. A four-piece brass band climbs atop the Braves dugout to play. A roving emcee asks randomly-selected fans trivia questions and to guess the attendance for prizes. Besides the gift shop behind home plate, there are plenty of carts placed around the stadium offering Braves merchandise and memorabilia.
