2025 Florida Spring Training Attendance Reaches Highest Total Since 2018
A total of 1,448,778 fans attended 231 Florida Spring Training Games in the 2025 season, for an average of 6,272 fans per game. Six games were cancelled due to weather, on Monday, February 24, the only day during the 33-day season, affected by weather. The 2025 Florida Spring Training season began on Friday, February 22 and concluded on Tuesday, March 25.
It was the highest attendance mark since the 2018 season when 1,497,306 fans witnessed 230 games.
The Florida Grapefruit League is host to 15 teams, playing in 12 facilities in 13 Florida locations. The annual Major League Baseball pilgrimage to Florida for pre-season preparation dates back to the 1888 season when the Washington Nationals traveled south to Jacksonville for pre-season workouts.
Besides giving fans an up close and personal look at Major League Baseball games in smaller venues, Florida Spring Training is an economic benefit to the State of Florida as a 2022 survey showed a total economic impact of $679.8 million in the Florida economy for the fiscal years of 2019-20 and 2020-21.
Highlights from the 2025 season included:
- The most attended day was Friday, March 14 when 65,769 fans attended nine games statewide.
- Eight of the 15 Florida Grapefruit League teams topped the 100,000 total attendance mark. Leading the way was the New York Yankees with 151,837 fans at George M. Steinbrenner Field. Also joining the six-figure club were the Philadelphia Phillies (144,862), Boston Red Sox (133,881), Minnesota Twins (113,670), Baltimore Orioles (106,836), New York Mets, (106,027), Atlanta Braves (100,855) and the Detroit Tigers (100,415).
- The New York Mets total of 106,027 fans was the highest total since 2000 and only second time since 2000 the Mets have topped 100,000. The last time being 2017, with 103,351.
- The most-attended game of the year was the Philadelphia Phillies vs. the Toronto Blue Jays at BayCare Ballpark on Monday, March 17, with 10,744 fans in Clearwater.
- When 10,468 fans were in attendance at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, to close out the Detroit Tigers Spring Training season, on Saturday, March 22, against the Atlanta Braves, it was the largest crowd in the long history of the Tigers in Lakeland.
Since 2000, a total of 37,180,383 fans have attended Spring Training Baseball games in Florida.
The 2025 Florida Spring Training attendance figure accounts for all games between Major League teams, played in the State of Florida. Attendances are compiled daily by the Florida Sports Foundation, the State of Florida’s lead sports promotion and development organization and verified by each team.
